Summerland II

"A cozy view of a little micro-pocket on the Pacific Coast" My first attempt at reproducing a painting from a large piece to a smaller format, this 9x12 oil on canvas "Summerland II" was painted from the original "Summerland" 18x24 per the request of a collector. I think it's a successful painting, in fact my patron prefers it to the original.

Moonlit Cliffs at San Miguel Island

I love this painting and it has some special meaning to me. I painted it from the back deck of a dive boat last September and there's something about painting in the dark that draws upon my soul more so that painting in daylight.  I guess it's because I'm acting more on my feelings than I do in the daytime.

Le Terre

This is my first post in over a month. I have been painting almost daily but haven't been in the mood to share I guess until now. This painting "Le Terre" (The Land) is about mans encroachment on nature and the nature of "being". The location seems like the end of the world to me as there is a bustling college town behind me with all of this intense energy of competition, and winning and in front of me is this peaceful meadow. So I've placed a figure walking away from the condominiums in the distant who is content just being in nature, I think she is a very important element because she is not involved with anything but having this experience with the land in the moment. I've heard it said that "Your soul is not concerned with what you're doing, it's only concern is what you're being while you're doing".

Morning Fog - Ledbetter Cliffs

This is the second painting from the morning session at Ledbetter Beach, just when I finished "Morning Light" the fog rolled in and I threw another canvas on the easel.

Morning Light

The Cliffs at Ledbetter Beach really do glow in the morning light as long as the fog hangs offshore, I painted two pieces that morning, this was the first.

Halo

NOAA Photo Library
In folklore, a halo seen around the sun or the moon means rain is coming. This piece was born out of  a stroll near the beach with a dear friend and then a conversation with my mentor that lasted several weeks. Grateful for the learning experience I had while painting it.

Palm Breeze

It was one of those perfect days at Refugio Beach, Sun, Clouds, and just enough of a breeze to keep me cool while painting this one.
